Finding garage sale items that you can resell is getting to be quite a trend. For a while there everyone was selling all new items, but with our slow economy more and more people are looking for used items. People love getting something they want or can use, and love getting it cheap!
With today’s internet highway and online shopping, people sometimes don’t even consider what goods they could obtain for resale from a good garage sale. Shoppers looking for a particular item are sometimes looking for it used. As long as it works, is in good condition, and the price is right they are happy.
How Do You Know It Will Sale?
The honest answer is, you don’t. You can go to eBay and see what’s hot. eBay shares this information with anyone. Or, you can search online with the Google Keyword Tool and enter a keyword for the item and see if it pulls a big response.
The problem is you don’t have a computer with you at the sale to check these things out before you bye. If you browse online auctions regularly you will get a pretty good idea of what is hot.
Here are a few of my own personal deals, just to show you that you can’t prejudge what people will buy.
- A wood carved dog - I paid 25 cents, listed it in pet collectibles and it sold for $14.00.
- A Disney brand Tinkerbell costume - I paid $1.00 - It looked brand new and as if it had never been worn.- Sold it to a lady in England for $21.00.
- A Bag of Round Embroidery/Cross stitch Hoops new with tags. - Paid $2.00 for the bag of 20. - Sold for $24.00.
You can see what kind of profit I made on such little items. The purchasers also paid the shipping. Now I bring up these small items to show you a large sum of money is not needed for a wholesaler when you first get started. I had no idea these things would sell but I paid so little for them it was worth a try.
When I first started auctions I got my products this way. The ones that didn’t sell I saved for my next garage sale. So the next time you catch yourself at a garage sale looking at something, ask yourself…I wonder what I could get for this?
